Plan your play day with confidence.
Ontario Playground helps Ontario families discover playgrounds, splash pads, and beaches that match their children's ages, interests, and access needs — powered by reports from people who actually visit them.
What this is
This map holds the details municipal park listings usually skip: what's actually in a playground, which ages it suits, what condition it's in, what the ground surface is, and whether there's a washroom, parking, or shade when you need them. Every entry comes from a community report and is checked by a moderator before it appears.
Reading the map
Every marker is coloured and iconed by what kind of place it is:
Playground · Splash pad · Beach
Age groups are written out rather than drawn as symbols. You will see them on every result card and in the map popup:
Toddlers Preschool School age
Colour is never the only signal: each marker carries its own icon as well as its colour, and every age group is spelled out in words — so nothing on the map depends on being able to tell two hues apart. Select any marker or list card for the full details page: equipment and condition, amenities, accessibility features, photos, and the address ready to copy.
Using the explorer
Everything filters everything: pick a location type, an age group, or the facilities you need — washroom, water fountain, parking, shade, fencing, or accessible features; choose a place from the list; or just pan the map, and the counts follow the area you're looking at. Curious about the bigger picture? Open Community Insights for equipment, condition, and surfacing charts.
How data is collected
One report covers one place: its name, type, and location, amenities, disability-accessibility details, photos, and — for playgrounds — an entry for each piece of play equipment with its recommended age group and condition. Reports go into a moderation queue; a moderator approves them before they're published. Updating a place works the same way: suggest an update from its details page and your report replaces the old one once approved, with the previous version kept as history.
Contribute
See a place that's missing, or one that's changed? Add a report — it takes a few minutes, photos welcome, no account needed. Your report helps the next family, and helps communities see where playground investment is needed most.
Data & privacy
We have deliberately built this site to collect as little as possible. There are no accounts, no advertising, and no analytics or tracking scripts of any kind. We do not sell or share anything you give us.
What we store
- A first name, only if you choose to give one when reporting a place, so you can be credited. Leave it blank and the report is anonymous.
- The details of the place you report — location, equipment, surfacing, facilities. This is public information about public spaces, and it is the whole point of the site.
- Photos you upload. These are resized and published alongside the place they document.
About photos
Location data and other hidden metadata are stripped from every photo on upload — the GPS coordinates your phone embeds never reach our database. Please only submit photos you have the right to share, and avoid close-up or identifying pictures of children who are not your own. Moderators may edit or remove any submission to keep the site accurate and appropriate.
Other services your browser contacts
Some parts of the site load from third parties, and those services can see your IP address when they do. We do not control what they log:
- OpenStreetMap — supplies the map tiles, so it is contacted whenever a map is shown.
- Nominatim (also OpenStreetMap) — turns a typed address into coordinates when you search for a location on the report form.
- Google Fonts and the unpkg / jsDelivr code networks — deliver the typefaces and mapping libraries the pages need.
Removing something
If you want a photo, a name, or an entry taken down, ask us and we will remove it — no reason needed.
